Club Contest
January

The International Speech and Speech Evaluation Contests are held in January. The winners go on to represent our club at the Area level, where they compete with winners from 4-5 other clubs.

Winners at the Area level proceed to the District Contest, and so on up the Toastmaster hierarchy until one winner - the World Champion of Public Speaking - is selected at the annual International Convention.

Each year one of the following Evaluation, Humorous Speech, Tall Tales or Table Topics Contests are held along side the International Speech Contestants. As the names suggests, these speeches are always humorous and entertaining!

We are proud to have one of our members crowned the "2020 World Champion of Public Speaking"!

Annual Awards Banquet
June

This is the elegant affair of the year!  Held at a top restaurant in Austin (Green Pastures is a frequent choice), we take this time to honor a local luminary with the Communication Achievement Award.

Past Honorees have included:

  • Barbara Jordan

  • Cactus Pryor

  • Ann Richards, and

  • Kinky Friedman.

Club members are also recognized with awards for the following categories:

  • Toastmaster of the Year,

  • Best Speaker,

  • Most Improved Speaker,

  • Best Evaluator, and

  • Best at Table Topics.

This is the event where you're most likely to meet the spouses of fellow members, former Austin Toastmasters, and Toastmasters from other clubs.

Peter Pan Golf Tournament
May

As a counterbalance to the "real" golf tournament in the fall, this miniature golf tournament is open to all—no skills or equipment required! The event is traditionally BYO-Beer and "awards" are announced at the end of the tournament.

This 2016 Fall Contest saw two amazing speeches advance to the Area Contest! Jeremy Haston's Tall Tale mesmermized the audience and Shawn Thomas' evaluation gave everyone excellent advice on how to give an effective speech. Good luck to our fellow Toastmasters!

Halloween Costume and Table Topics Meeting
October

We go all out with costumes, snacks and awards for best costumes. We skip the regular meeting agenda for a fun-filled Table Topics format.

White Elephant Holiday Party
December

We celebrate the holiday season in style by having this get-together and exchanging white elephant gifts. This is always a fun party, but if you are uninitiated, be forewarned that you may be opening something that would not earn a PG rating. Sure, there are some keeper gifts….1 or 2 each year. Then there's the perennial Chia something-or-other, and who knows what else. We have dinner pot-luck style, giving members a chance to showcase their culinary talents. Caroling is not on the agenda - we're speakers, not singers - but caravans to see the lights on 37th Street have been known to occur.
